1. Our Stand on Authenticity
Authenticity is not optional at Alkebulan Artist Hub — it is our foundation. We exist to protect authentic African art, real creators, and cultural storytelling. Every piece on our platform carries the hands, history, and heart of a verified traditional artist.
2. Verification Process
Every artist must pass our Cultural Authenticity Verification before listing. The verification process includes:
- Identity verification through government-issued documentation.
- Proof of practice via photos or videos of the artist creating work.
- A cultural background statement explaining the tradition, lineage, and meaning of their craft.
- A community or elder reference who can vouch for the artist's legitimacy.
- Review of past work to confirm consistency and quality.
Our Cultural Board reviews each application within 7–14 days. We may request additional information or conduct follow-up interviews.
3. Prohibited Products
The following items are strictly prohibited on our platform:
- Mass-produced or factory-made items.
- Reproductions or copies passed off as original handmade work.
- Items with false claims about materials, age, or cultural origin.
- Sacred or ceremonial objects sold without documented community consent.
- Items that appropriate cultural symbols or traditions without authorization.
4. Verification Badges
We display the following badges on artist profiles and product pages to communicate trust:
- Verified Traditional Artist — The artist has passed full Cultural Board review.
- Verified Handmade Product — The piece was made by hand by the named artist.
- Cultural Story Provided — The listing includes a respectful, truthful cultural narrative.
- Community Verified — The artist's community or cultural elders have confirmed their standing.
5. Ongoing Monitoring
Verification is not a one-time event. We conduct ongoing monitoring of listings, buyer feedback, and community reports. Artists who violate authenticity standards may have their verification revoked and their account suspended.
6. Reporting Inauthentic Listings
If you believe a listing or artist is inauthentic, please report it immediately through our platform. We investigate every report thoroughly and take swift action when violations are confirmed. Buyers who report confirmed inauthentic listings may be eligible for refunds under our Buyer Protection Policy.
7. Cultural Integrity
Beyond physical authenticity, we protect cultural integrity. Stories must be truthful and respectful. Sacred symbols and ceremonial objects require community consent. We work with cultural advisors and community leaders to ensure that the art on our platform honors the traditions it represents.
